Volcanological Museum of Nisyros

Nisyros is a complex stratovolcano which emerged above sea level and created a beautiful island. The Volcanological Museum is in Nikia and offers a panoramic view to the interior of the caldera and the volcano.

The Museum will help you understand the genesis and the evolution of volcanoes. Here you will find samples and images of the most impressive rocks, maps, charts, volcano models, photographs etc. You will also learn about the structure of the lithospheric plates of the planet and volcanic activity in the region. Modern digital technology allows the construction of impressive, three-dimensional animated images while there are experimental devices for the young guests. Furthermore, in the museum there is a library with a rich collection of books and articles.

Near the museum there is a volcanology observatory which records data from all active volcanoes on a 24/7 basis.
